When facing an unexpected challenge, I pushed myself beyond my limits, exploring new solutions. In the process, I realized no matter how hard something is, there is always a way through to the other side.

Packing up the car for a three-day boot camp in upstate New York, we were all in this together. When our Westie rescue could not adjust to our home, we were willing to do whatever we could to make it work.

I have loved dogs all my life, and for the past 20 years or so, Westies have been my passion. By the time we went to boot camp, I had been rescuing Westies for many years. Although we encountered challenges with each one, we had never faced such a difficult adjustment. Our dog, Tucker, did not trust me because of his past experiences with women. That little dog gave me a run for my money, testing my belief in my own capabilities.

I love challenges and often do sudoku and puzzles when I have the time because getting things to fit into place is so satisfying. That determination to make things work and the relentless work ethic behind it were inspired by my father. As a child, I watched him work long hours running his construction company each day. He always had several jobs going at once and ran his business for decades until he was no longer able. While helping him here and there over the years, I learned a lot about construction, electrical and plumbing.

I built my real estate business while my father was still running his construction company. Utilizing his expertise, I often bounced ideas off of him and enjoyed hearing his perspective. I have been a full-time REALTOR® from the start and stayed with it over the decades because I love what I do and do not like to lose. My husband, Brian, has been on my team from the beginning, and his support has been key to my success. So, with Brian behind me and an unwillingness to accept defeat, we went to New York for boot camp.

By the end of that trip, we fixed the problem. Tucker and I could trust each other. Though he is still a daddy’s boy through and through, we found a way to create a more harmonious home. It was difficult and often stressful, but worth it. I realized solutions are always out there. Although, we can never predict which solution will work until a situation presents itself. Once it does, all we have to do is uncover the answer.

During the final years of my father’s life, he struggled with Parkinson’s Disease and dementia. Toward the end, he lived with us while we cared for him. It was a wonderful and terrible journey that I would not trade for anything because what’s right is right, no matter how hard it is. I was able to provide a safe space for him, have time together, and give him the care he needed with some additional help. I have been presented with many unique challenges throughout my life, but I have learned to embrace them all as part of the journey.

Though my father passed away in 2021 and I miss him dearly, losing him reminded me that no matter how impossible or stressful any obstacle may seem, there is always a path to the other side. Whenever I am not working, I enjoy going to the beach, spending time with my Westies, and playing around in my garden. My favorite part of being a REALTOR® is earning my clients’ trust to achieve their dreams.
